Where there is a will, there is a way. Even if it is really welded, it can be done with the right tools and skill set. I don't think it is welded, though. A front sight is too small a part to weld.

You have either the Sistema Colt licensed copy or the Ballester-Molina which is also largely a copy of the M1911, but not a precise one.

If you have a Sistema, the front sight is just like a 1911 sight, meaning it is staked on. In this case you would do well to get a hold of a set of staking tools, which are available at any gun smithing supply catalog, or even on eBay. With the right tolls and following the instructions you should be able to to the replacement in 10 minutes.

If you have a Ballester-Molina, the sight can be either staked or soldered on. With your mention of welding, I'm thinking it's soldered. You will need to use a gas torch to melt the solder. Use a propane soldering torch and do not heat the slide any longer than necessary to melt the solder - you really don't want to mess up the heat treatment and make steel soft.

This would not be a job I would recommend to attempt unless you are familiar with soldering and sweating. Whatever a gunsmith would charge for a sight replacement is cheaper than the medical treatment you may require if you make a mistake and the gun falls apart in your hands.

Can you change a tire if the rim is welded on?

If the rim is welded to the tire, yes. You can change it, but you have to replace both the rim and the tire which will cost a lot. If the rim is welded to the vehicle itself, no. You cannot change it. In either case, having a welded rim is technically illegal in the US if you drive it on the road. If you don't, then it's not a problem
