Yes, "docking stations" are available for many laptops. Just plug in the laptop to the docking station and everything will be connected.

Next, get an "A/B" type switch that will allow you to connect keyboard, mouse and monitor to either the laptop or the desktop just by pushing a button or turning a switch. Many of the switches can be controlled by the keyboard.

You'll be spending a few dollars, but sometimes the convenience is worth it.
