The nucleoid region in prokaryotes does the same job as the nucleus in eukaryotes, but I do not think you mean this. Nothing holds the genetic information in eukaryote except the nucleus and the mitochondria and chloroplasts. So these endosymbiotic organelles could be said to be doing the same job as the nucleus.
