I'm convince d the Devil cultivated this plant and laughs at all who are cursed with it. It can be killed, temporarily, but will be back each year for a good while. The roots grow fast, they grow strong and they grow deep. After trying many things including digging up the root that was as thick a a Baseball bat an pulling up as much as I was able, then bathing it in root kill it was apparent the vine had won. I found the best defense was full strength Spectracide Brush Killer for Poison Ivy & Poison Oak sprayed over new foliage in early June kills the plant pretty well for the season. Hit it again as frequently as needed until you beat it back. You'll see results from the spray within hours. It will come back the following year but hit it again until it's dead. Slack off too often and for too long and you'll be back to square one.
An old man at the nursery told me not to buy it because I would regret it. I should have listened to that old man. I'm old now. Listen to your elders ...
