There is nothing wrong with wearing makeup. The only problems people may have with makeup is how much you wear, how intense you make your makeup and at what age you wear makeup but it's not something that is wrong. Just try to find the right makeup looks to match your skin tone and face.

Makeup contains chemicals that are unnatural to be placed on human (or animal) skin.

In historic times, makeup contained products such as arsenic, which is a poison - as a result, people's faces began to blister, burn and slowly peel to become unappealing, to the extent that they wore more makeup to cover up the issues, which just worsened them.

These days genuine makeup products do not contain these chemicals any more, but they do contain "replacements". While these replacements are not poisonous, they can still cause skin issues in some people, such as a common condition known as irritant contact dermatitis.

There is still the risk that cheap makeup products imported from developing countries, such as China, contain harmful chemicals, such as arsenic (which also makes them illegal) - which is why you should never import your products.

Sharing makeup and makeup tools such as brushes can also cause problems of their own. Bacteria from one person is passed onto the other person via shared makeup tools, which can cause bacterial issues such as serious eye infections which could damage your sight permanently. It has also been noticed by dermatologists that women who frequently use makeup actually age quicker than women who use little or no makeup, because the harsh chemicals dries out the skin, even if you use moisturisers, which quickens the ageing process. To overcome this, many women use more makeup and products like wrinkle cream, which just dries their skin even more, again speeding up the ageing process.

Your skin is covered in pores, which the body uses to expel waste (sweat) and and breathe air to feed the skin cells. If makeup is covering or blocking these pores then you will get a waste build up on your skin behind the makeup, because it cannot be expelled into the air, resulting in a face full of bacteria, which will encourage the growth of acne. Blocked pores preventing skin from breathing can skill off skin cells, again speeding up the ageing process and resulting in less defence against acne build up.

Some religions will not allow you to wear makeup, such as some branches of Islam or pentecostal. Doing so could result in rejection within the religious community.

To avoid the issues noted above, you should avoid wearing too much makeup and avoid wearing makeup when it is not necessary to do so (ie being around family members - they know what you look like without it anyway).

You can also buy products that are hypo-allergenic, which means they have less chance of causing skin irritation issues.

Noncomedogenic makeup products do not block pores. And nonacnegenic makeup will not trap sweat and therefore will not encourage acne.
