Your light can come on from the gas tank cap not being screwed on all the way. Drive it for a few tanks and make sure the cap is all the way on everytime and the light may go out by itself.
no,not really
It will bolt right into the engine bay without a problem.
A code reader that can plug into car's diag port can reset it, there is no point resetting anyway without repair or it comes back on and could be something serious so find out what the problem is.

It will solve the problem. The 3.4 is notorious for poor head gaskets. You can replace the gaskets on the engine without replacing the engine, and that will solve the problem for quite a while. It will be much less costly than an engine replacement.
If that is the only problem, then yes.
If the Check Engine light is on then there is a problem with the emissions system. Once that is repaired the light can be reset. Reset it without repairing the problem and it will just come back on.

If you have been revving it a lot, that may be the problem. If you put too much gas into the engine without burning it up, it sits in the engine and floods it.
you can it will require dropping a k frame which is what is stopping you from getting the sump off anyway it save alot of time but may be hard without a hoist
likely an emission system problem. or bad oxygen sensor, thereby making the engine run rich, putting too much gas into the engine that doesn't get burnt off so you smell it either slightly flooded in the engine, or most likely out of the exhaust (where most of the gas goes without being burnt anyway thanks to government regulation of cars which they have no understanding of combustion.)
This is usually a head gasket problem, meaning the engine will eventually fail without testing and/or repair.
