Gravity holds the atmosphere in place. In fact, it perfectly balances the upward pressure gradient force (air pressure decreases as you go up in the atmosphere, causing a gradient that would otherwise generate a VERY strong wind upward). This is called hydrostatic equilibrium.

Why is there no gravity outside your atmosphere?

There certainly is gravity outside the atmosphere. For example, it is gravity that keeps the Moon in orbit around the Earth, and the Earth in orbit around the Sun.

How do you distinguish between the biosphere and atmosphere?

Atmosphere is the gaseous envelope that surrounds a planet and is held in place by gravity. Biosphere is the zone on and around a planet that sustains life.

Does the gravity hold the atmosphere around the earth?

yeah

Why lack of atmosphere around the moon?

The moon's gravity is too weak to hold on to an atmosphere.

What does the gravity do to the atmosphere?

Answer: It keeps up from being crushed from the atmosphere around us... it also keeps us from floating away and helps keep the earth the right temp. Answer: Gravity keeps the atmosphere around the planet in the first place.

How are satellites held in orbit around Earth?

the atmosphere of gravity pulls it.

What keeps the blanket of air around the earth?

Atmosphere. Wow.

What keeps the atmosphere around the earth?

A magnetic field holds atmosphere to the planet. Without a magnetosphere the solar wind from the sun will blow the atmosphere away. That is why our planet still has an atmosphere, we have the magnetic poles.

Does outer space have an atmosphere?

No, it's the other way around: atmosphere needs gravity to stay on a planet. Artificially, pressurized compartments can maintain atmosphere though. Such is the case on the International Space Station.

What force holds a planet's atmosphere in place?

Gravity holds the atmosphere around the planet. Gravity is the force that attracts a body toward the center of the planet. For most purposes Newton's laws of gravity apply, with minor modifications to take the general theory of relativity into account.

What keeps us from floating off into the sky and keeps the planets in orbit around the sun?

gravity?

Earth gravity reach beyond the atmosphere?

Oh yeah! It's why the moon - way out of our atmosphere - continues to circle around us. Earth's gravity keeps it close. In fact, even at 17 moon distances away from the Earth, gravity still reaches. Granted, it's 1/millionth of what it is on the surface of the Earth, but the gravitational pull between two objects in fact, never ends, it just gets infinitesimally smaller.
