Emily Deschanel is on maternity leave.
Currently, there is no federal law in the United States requiring employers to provide paid maternity leave. However, some states, such as California, New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, have their own laws in place that provide for paid maternity leave. These state laws typically provide a certain number of weeks of paid leave at a percentage of the employee's regular wages.
Nope. You use up your CAR days and then its unpaid.
Some states have their own policies. Like California, New York, and a few others have paid family leave programs. So, it really depends on where you're at. Maternity leave in the US can be a bit tricky. There's actually no federal law guaranteeing paid maternity leave. But don't worry, there's the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that can be a lifesaver. If you're lucky, your employer might offer paid maternity leave as part of their benefits package. But, again, it varies. So, my advice? Talk to your HR folks, read up on your company's policies, and see what's available to you. Good luck mamma🤗👶🍼

There is currently no such law in New Jersey. A law giving cash benefits to new mothers and fathers was proposed by New Jersey State Assemblywomen Shiela Oliver and Linda Greenstein in 2006. However, the bill was not passed.
If the child is in foster care you pay but not if the child is adopted. Then the child have new parents who are responsible for him/her.
Maternity leave is a period of time a woman takes off work after (and shortly before) the birth of her baby. This time is sometimes paid and sometimes not paid. The time off allows the mother to bond with her new baby as well as recovering from the birth. The time allowed for maternity leave varies by company and by country. Some places now allow paternity leave so the father can take time off work too.
