On a 1996 Ford Explorer :
Yes , I assume it is the same as my 1995 Ford Explorer :
There are ( 3 ) LARGE relays that I know of in the Power Distribution Box
In the row nearest the drivers side , the large relay is the Wide Open Throttle
Air Conditioning relay
In the 2nd row from the drivers side :
The first large relay , nearest the front of the vehicle is the PCM RELAY
The second large relay fron the front of the vehicle is the FUEL PUMP RELAY
No , the power distribution box is in the engine compartment and is " live " The fuse box is inside your vehicle
The powertrain control module (PCM) is visible from the engine compartment. It passes through the firewall on the passenger side. The wiring is on the engine side of the firewall and the body of the PCM is inside the Explorer located behind the glove compartment.
The PCM ( powertrain control module ) is visible from the engine compartment. It is installed through the firewall on the passenger side , the wiring harness is visible and the rest of the PCM is "hidden" inside the Explorer behind your glove compartment
Click on the link below Click on Owner Guides The Owner Guide ( which includes a diagram of the power distribution box located in your engine compartment and the servicing instructions ) can be viewed online The fuel pump relay is inside the power distribution box
The engine air filter is located inside the air cleaner housing , on the passenger side of your engine compartment ( just follow the big rubber " tube " from the front of your engine , near the top of the engine , over to the passenger side of your engine compartment )
It is #29 which is located inside the power distribution box in the engine compartment near the battery.
There are two fuse panels, or power distribution boxes. The engine compartment power distribution box is located on the left hand side of the engine compartment above the wheel well, and the central (inside) power distribution box is located under the LH side of the dash, left of the steering column.
The powertrain control module (PCM) is mounted through the firewall on the passenger side. You can see one end of it with the wiring harness from the engine compartment , and the rest of the PCM is "hidden" inside the Explorer behind the glove compartment . Helpfull
In the Power Distribution Box in the engine compartment Relay # 6 is the starter relay Caution : The PD Box is " live " ( I believe it was 1998 that Ford changed the Explorer from the solenoid / relay switch mounted on the inside of the drivers fender , near the battery to a plug in style in the PD Box )
there is two a main one in the engine compartment and one inside the truck its self (for the radio, interoir lights etc....)
There should be ( 2 ) , one inside the vehicle and a power distribution box ( which is " live " ) in the engine compartment
The powertrain control module passes through the passenger side of the firewall. Looking in the engine compartment, you can see where the wiring harness is bolted to the end of the PCM. The body of it is inside behind the glove compartment.
