In Genesis 11:31, Sarai (Sarah) is described as the daughter-in-law of Terah, but not as the daughter of Haran, although Milcah is explicitly described as the daughter of Haran. Here, she is not described as the sister of Abram (Abraham) nor the daughter of Terah.
Later, Abraham twice described Sarah as his sister, meaning that she would not only be the daughter-in-law of Terah, but also his daughter. Abraham made those claims in unusual circumstances that could cast doubt on their veracity.
Sarah was almost certainly a descendant of Terah, and therefore either his daughter or daughter of his son, Haran. Each of the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was descended on both sides from Terah. If Sarah had not been descended from Terah, this would be one break in the chain of descent. Even Jacob's wives, Leah and Rachel, were daughters of Laban and therefore descendants of Terah.
Sarah might have been the sister of Abraham and therefore of Laban, or the daughter of Laban.
