To tell the truth, nobody really knows. Every manufacturer spends money on pest control, and they take steps to prevent contamination. However, this is very difficult to stop completely. Rats and mice tend to enjoy aromatic foods, foodstuffs, and nuts. Candy bars certainly have enough of a scent to be interesting to rodents. When you are not at the plant, you have know way of knowing if a rat relieves itself in a vat in the middle of the night. Even the FDA is aware of the fact that it is next to impossible to eliminate all possible insect and rodent contamination, and there are official limits as to how much of each contaminant is allowed.
