Lets get something straight. There are BB guns / Rifles and there are Pellet guns / Rifles and there are a few BB & pellet rifle combinations. Most BB guns are .177 Caliber, there are a very few that are .22 caliber. Pellet gun & Rifles come in .177, .20, .22, .25, 9 mm, 40 Caliber, and 50 Caliber. The last 3 calibers are usually high powered air rifles in the PCP class of rifles (PreCharged Pneumatic) they require a special pump or Scuba tank to charge them. So Yes there are calibers much larger than .177
The 22 is slightly larger than the .177 cal. The 177 Pellet is almost the same diameter as the .175 BB.
The .22 is a larger slug and will have more knockdown power than the .177.

Any .177 cal pellet can be shot from you air rifle. However you will find that some brands are much better than others.
A pistol that fires .177 diameter pellets.
diameter
Well, the .22 is bigger than a .177, but the "strength" depends on the action of the air rifle that shoots them. Certainly the .22 will have more hitting power assuming that the pellets are traveling at the same speed.
No. a 177 is a 4.5mm pellet. A 5mm is a 20 cal pellet. A 5.5mm is a 22 cal pellet Don't try it in the wrong airgun.
Yes.
No
I would have to say no because the question is for a .177 cal 'BB' gun. If you intend on hunting with air rifles in the .177 caliber, then you really should use pellets. Pellets provide much greater accuracy and are more humane than a BB.
