Ninja are people in Feudal Japan that are trained in the Ninjutsu Path. They were spies in Japan and opposed the bringing of firearms (Guns) into Japan in the 16th century. Ninja Clans liked to kidnap village farm children and force them to join the ninjutsu path. Other clans were paid by samuri warriors to sneak around and do the dirty work that they couldn't do because of the Samuri Honor Code.
In Japanese history a ninja was a warrior specially trained in a variety of unorthodax arts of war. These includes assassination, illusion and espionage. The exact origin of the ninja is a matter of a debate It is known that a ninja appeared in the 14th century Japan remained active from Kamakura to the Edo period.

The roles of the ninja may have included as well as sabotage, espeionage, and scouting.

There is no evidence historical ninja wore all black suits. Some ninja may have worn the same armor or clothing as samurai or Japanese peasants. The sereotypical ninja who wears easily identifiable black outfits comes from the Kabuki theater. Prop handlers dress in black to move props around the stage. The audience sees the prop handlers but pretend they are invisible. Building on suspension of disbleief, ninja characters came to be portrayed in the theatre as wearing similar all black suits. This made the audience unable to tell a ninja chracter from the prop handles until the ninja character distinguished himself from the other stagehands with a scripted attack or assassination.
