There is a daily train each way between Austin and Dallas. The southbound train leaves Dallas at 11:50 am and arrives in Austin at 6:30 pm. The northbound train leaves Austin at 9:31 am and arrives in Dallas at 3:20. If your destination is also close to Fort Worth, you can shave over an hour off of this travel time.

There is such service with a connection to Chicago. There is a Hiawatha Service train that leaves Milwaukee at 11:00 am and arrives in Chicago at 12:29 pm. Then you take the Texas Eagle that leaves Chicago at 1:48 pm and arrives in Dallas at 11:30 am the next day. For the return trip, you leave Dallas at 3:40 pm on the Texas Eagle and arrive in Chicago at 1:52 pm the next day. You can switch to the Hiawatha train leaving at 3:15 pm and arriving in Milwaukee at 4:44 pm.
