Well, I happen to have got that virus one time. Its called AntiVirus 2010. It SAYS its a virus killing program, but when you run it, its actually downloading a HUGE virus. It wouldn't let me use AdAware or anything!!

actually its not so rare antivirus 2010 is one of many programs called "rogues" rogues are a fake antivirus that may install itself without any given consent and if not its just downloaded by the user and installed
also rogues can do things like disable command prompt and task manager

EDIT: Yes, a virus is very capable of disabling anti-virus software. Some virus will even crash your computer if you attempt to access your anti-virus programs to run a scan.

∙ 8y agoYou can attempt to reinstall your antivirus and run a scan, or you could try to install a different anti-virus program (maybe just grab a free one like AVG, Avast, ClamWin, or Avira). The best solution, though, is to get a "rescue" disk from an anti-virus company--this is usually free. AVG, Avast and Avira are some good ones to start with. One might not work, another might not find the problem, but try several until one of them catches the problem.
