  • 57g can be more than we require.
  • It varies from person to person.
  • In other words depends on what you want the protein for. If you're just a regular adult without exercise probably about 50-70g is a good amount. If you're exercising lightly (ie once or twice per week with a bit of a sweat) 70ish is fine, if you're exercising moderately (ie 2-4 times per week with a decent amount of sweat) you should be fine with up to 80-90g and if you're exercising heavily especially with weight training, you'd be looking at over 100g. for example if you're looking to build muscle, you'd be looking at up to 1g per pound of body weight (aim for your target body weight in pounds) so if you're currently 130 pounds and looking to get to 160, you should be aiming for about 160g of protein per day, depending on your exercise routine this can go all the way up to 200-300+ grams per day.

It is hard to say how much protein is too much protein because protein comes in many different forms. If you are referring to grain fed beef, you are talking about meat with saturated fat. That is true of almost any other animal raised in confined quarters. More than once a week may be too ofter to eat the saturated fat that comes with that meat. Other people whose diet consists l lot of fish containing omega 3 fats eat it almost every day of their lives with little difficulty. So, it depends on the type of protein.

Still, your body has a tendency to produce excess cholesterol. It needs it to digest other fats. It enters your digestive tract at the beginning of the small intestine and either attaches to a molecule of fat or to fiber. If it attaches to fat, it reenters your liver and goes from there to your body to be stored or used for energy. The cholesterol either returns to your liver or if your liver is full, it is deposited in your arteries. If you have fiber in your digestive track, some cholesterol is eliminated with other waste. The cholesterol in your arteries can build up, close off the artery, and cause a heart attack.

However, in general people who eat a vegetarian diet containing a wide range of vegetables with occasional meat are the healthiest people.

Can you overdose on Protein?

Overconsumption of protein can make you fat; proteins have a caloric value just like sugars and fats do. The amino acids that make up protein can be converted into sugars through a process called gluconeogenesis. Also, certain proteins are themselves toxic (rattlesnake venom is a protein). What is more is that if you eat too much protein, even high-quality food protein, your body breaks it down into nitrogen compounds such as urea. Too much of that sort of thing is bad for your body, causing kidney damage and so on. Too much of anything is bad for you.

Is sausage bad for gout sufferers?

Sausage is high in protein, and excessive amounts of protein in the diet are a contributing factor to gout, however, you do still want some protein in your diet, so if you are not eating too much sausage, and you are not eating too much protein in general (which is to say, steaks and eggs and fish etc.) then you can have some sausage.
