Trios College is a REGISTERED Private Career College that is classified as a "private business" by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Univerities. As such, the MTCU does not impose any standards regarding the quality of training, and students who pay large tuition fees to Private Career Colleges are not protected from "personal" harassment which is different than harassment on the grounds that fall under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
ACCREDITATION is provided by governing bodies of the program you enrole in. For example, the Law Society of Upper Canada has accredited certain campuses (not all) of TriOS College to offer legal training towards a Paralegal Certificate. Anyone considering attending a Private Career College in Ontario should research through the MTCU website the number of students by program who default on their OSAP loans as a good indicator of whether or not you will obtain work in your career of choice upon graduation. For example: Police Foundation graduates have a 100% default rate (all students who got OSAP did not repay their OSAP loans)
Ensure before entering into any Enrollment Agreements with any Private Career College that you obtain and read their Student Handbooks before signing any documents, as they often contain clauses that relinquish the College from responsibility to provide 'high quality' training, to treat the students with dignity or respect, and they also contain Disciplinary Policies that are severe, and Complaints Procedures that are unfair and geared to protect the College and not the student.
The lack of complaints about any Private Career College on the MTCU's webpage does not mean that there haven't been any. The Private Career Colleges Act only permits the MTCU to order the College to give a student a partial or full refund of tuition ONLY in the event the College does not follow it's own Complaints Policy which is drafted by them, and designed to make the process as difficult as possible for the student. Students put their careers and funding at risk by attending these "private business" so proceed with absolute caution if considering enrolling at one.
