oils tend to be triglycerides ( ester groups with a fatty acid and glycerol as the alcohol ) that contain mono or poly unsaturated fatty acids. The less saturation of a fatty acid the higher the melting point of the compound and is thus less likely to be liquid at room temperature

What is the Difference between saturated and unsaturated lipid?

The difference is related to which long chain fatty acid is incorporated. If it is a fatty acid that has double bonds, then it is an unsaturated lipid. If it contains fatty acids that have no double bonds, then it is a saturated lipid.

What is a unsaturated lipid?

An unsaturated lipid is a fat in which there is at least one double bond within the fatty acid chain. Two kinds of fatty acid chains are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.

What is unsaturated lipid?

An unsaturated lipid is a type of fat where there is a minimum of one double bond inside the fatty acid chain. The fatty acid chain may be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated.

What kind of lipid has a carbon atom in a lipid's fatty acid chain that is joined to another carbon atom by a singel bond?

unsaturated

What type of lipid is triolein?

Trioelein is a triglyceride. It is derived from glycerol and three units of the unsaturated and oleic acid. Oleic acid is a fatty acid.

Explain the difference between saturated and unsaturated lipids?

The difference is related to which long chain fatty acid is incorporated. If it is a fatty acid that has double bonds, then it is an unsaturated lipid. If it contains fatty acids that have no double bonds, then it is a saturated lipid.

Why the double bond in unsaturated fatty acid chain cause bend and what is the effect of that bend on the overall function of lipid?

the double bond causes bending of the lipid because of the cis and trans conformers of the lipid , and the effect of that bending (such as in oleic acid) will make packaging of fatty acids harder.

An unsaturated fatty acid differs from a saturated fatty acid in that the unsaturated fatty acid contains what?

double carbon carbon bonds

What causes an unsaturated fatty acid to have a different shape than an a saturated fatty acid?

Unsaturated fatty acids have double carbon bonds.

What causes an unsaturated fatty acid to have a different shape than an saturated fatty acid?

The double chain in the unsaturated fatty acid cause it to bent; unlike saturated fatty acid which has no double bond, is straight

Is an fatty acid A lipid?
