Sanitization and Germs

Is using hand sanitizer just as good as washing your hands?

Not really. Obviously, sanitizer is better than nothing, but washing your hands is preferable in a variety of circumstances.

There are certain kinds of germs that sanitizers aren’t great at getting rid of, and many people don’t use them properly (not using enough or wiping it off prematurely, for example). Hand washing is also a better option when your hands are visibly greasy or dirty, and it’s much better at getting rid of harmful chemicals like pesticides.

However, hand washing isn’t always convenient, and there are so many cute and good-smelling hand sanitizers in the world, it would be a shame to forsake them entirely. If you use hand sanitizers, you want one with at least 60 percent alcohol for maximum effectiveness.

No. Sure, it's great when hand washing is unavailable or if it smells good (like from fragrance/ body products stores), but you know how most bottles says it kills "99.9% of germs"? That .1% then has no competition and it can multiply, easily making you sick. But obviously hand sanitizer is still great, especially on roads trips.

Hand sanitiser is not as good as washing hands. After you wash your hands if they have got maybe a little dirty and you want to freshen them up thats waht hand sanitiser is for. Lots of people at my school and Guide unit have been asking about if hand sanitiser helps prevent Covid-19 but the answer is no. Hand sanotiser helps fight bacteria. If you use alcohol bSED HAND SANITISERS IT MIGHT HELP A LITTLE BUT TRY NOT TO USE IT TOO MUCH AS IT DRIES OUT YOUR HANDS AND cracks them allowing infection to get in. If you want some hand sanitiser to help against Covid-19 you need to get a anti-viral one. sorry about the capitalisation my keyboard is not great. Xx

Hand sanitizer is not better than washing your hands, washing your hands is better because you use warm water and soap which kills more germs. I would recommend washing your hands but if your in a rush just use hand sanitizer cause that's a quick germ killer.

no hand sanitizer only cleans about 90% of the bacteria on your hand. to get rid of it you have to wash your hands with soap and sing happy birthday twice then you know your hands are really clean.

No, washing your hands is more powerful than using hand sanitizer, washing does more effect.

No hand sanitizer is just a coat over your hands that keep your hands temporarly clean and too much of it can kill your skin so wash your hands but now that there is corona virus hand sanstizer is needed so in that situation USE HANDSANATIZER

Not exactly, when you use hand sanitizer the germs are still on your hands they were not washed off or completely clean.

My buddy Jose who's sitting right next to me says that hand sanitizer kills bacteria but not viruses. So hand sanitizer is bad for that.

i have sensitive skin so washing my hands is better.

hand sanitizer kills germs, but doesn't get rid of dirt. so just for good measure, do both.

Using hand sanitizer is not just as good as washing your hands because the more you put on hand sanitizer, it also kills the good germs we have in our body. The name is not good germs, I just call it that. Washing your hands is better because the soap you use is better and keeps your safe from germs and cleaner! ^_^

probably not because if you were to go and eat food and you used hand sanitizer in stead of washing you could be putting a bunch of chemicals in your mouth and I don't think I would want that

Thinking sanitizer is better you might be a little wrong because the thing that is most compatible with soap is achohol which is 90% in some sanatizing product isn't the same as natural soap.

Using hand sanitizer does not come close to washing your hands with antibacterial soap and hot water. The sanitizer will only kill off the bacteria weak enough to be hurt by the alcohol concentration in the sanitizer. likewise, washing your hands with soap and hot water breaks down more of the bacteria and barriers in the bacteria, alongside using hot water (bacteria likes humid, warm climets, not soaking, hot climets) to wash them down the drain and into oblivion.

Hope this helped!

Washing your hands is always better. Soap kills bacteria, whereas sanitizer only kills most bacteria, allowing the surviving bacteria to make you sick and grow stronger. Washing hands also removes debris that attracts bacteria, such as food, dirt, etc...
