Methyl is more soluble in ether than in water because they are both non-polar. As with the rule goes, "Like dissolves like." Water is polar and the interaction of the water molecules is too strong for methyl (H-bonding) to break.

yes. Water is more polar than methanol. That is the reason why we always use methanol to extract many organic compounds. they could be better (more quickly) dissolved in methanol than in water.

Ether is more water soluble than hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are practically not soluble in water. Solubility of ether is 69 g / L at 20 degrees Celsius.

What compound is more polar and soluble in water methane or methanol and why?

Acetonitrile is slightly more polar than methanol. This is due to the presence of the C-N triple bond in acetonitrile (CH3CN).

Why is methanol more polar than ethanol?

Methane is CH4 or H-CH3 Ethane is CH3-CH3 When compared to H- (in methane), the CH3- (methyl group in ethane) is more electron donating and hence ethane is more basic than methane.

Is methanol more polar than acetone?

Methanol is more polar because is capable of dipole-dipole interactions AND hydrogen bonding while acetone is capable of just dipole-dipole interaction.

Is methanol more soluable than methane?

Yes, methanol is CH3OH and methane is CH4. Methanol is polar (because of the O-H bond) and methane is non-polar (because it is a hydrocarbon.) Water (which is polar) will dissolve other polar things, but not non-polar things.

Why is methanol more acidic than water?

Methanol is not acidic, it is not dissociable.

Why does butanol heat water more than methanol?

Butanol is has less polarity than methanol

Which is more polar methanol or acetonitrile and why?

Acetonitrile is a more polar molecule than methanol because of the triple bond and lone pair on the nitrogen (N) atom in acetonitrile. This makes that end of the molecule highly electronegative, even more so than an oxygen (O) atom containing two lone pairs in methanol.

Is Methanol a more cohesive liquid than water?

no

Why does ammonia dissolve more easily in water than in methanol?

Its otherway around actualy methanol dissove more than ammonia in water because of stronger H bond

Is sodium more soluble than methanol in water?

No. Sodium compounds do have a limit to their solubility in water. Methanol is water soluble in all proportions.

Is methanol more soluble in water than ch3ch2ch2ch2ch2oh?

Yes, methanol is more soluble than pentanol. The reason is that although both alcohols have an OH group that is attracted to water, pentanol has a 5-carbon, non-polar (hydrophobic) chain that significantly decreases its solubility. The solubilty decreases as the carbon chain increases. I hope this helps.

What is more polar ethanol or water?

Methanol because the longer the side chains the less polar it becomes
