The food should be preserved naturally, with mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E) or Vitamin C. Avoid all artificial preservatives, such as BHA, BHT, and Ethoxyquin. There should be NO artificial food coloring or dies in in the food, and no sweeterners (such as corn sweeteners or sorbitol, and no added salt in a dog or puppy food of quality.
The best quality dog and puppy foods are not found in a supermarket, you would need to go to one of the larger pet stores, or a specialty feed store.
