Most transformation packs for Windows are by third-parties and replace critical system files. So be wary, but some of them are uninstallable. I have installed Windows X's Vista transformation pack before on my Windows XP computer and it worked just fine.
I installed the Windows 7 Transformation Pack 3.0 on my Windows XP before and it REALLY slowed it down... But that might have been because I had a partially installed Vista Transformation Pack that couldn't be removed... They have 5.0, which is supposed to be a lot more stable. I would download Tuneup Utilities and Revo Uninstaller before you try it.
