Using sterile water is ideal if that's all you've got to clean your eyes. It's always better to use saline to clean your eyes out, though.
It looks black and it has baby faces that have X's for eyes, seemingly dead. that's how you can tell. :)

It might take a while for them to get used to having their eyes done. But if you used an eye-dropper and kept it hidden until just before you put in the drops, you will beable to sneak up on them.
