My brother took out a Life of Virginia policy for $100,000 in about 1996. Around 2000 he became disabled. I was the beneficiary. His name is Ronald Eugene Bradley and he lived at 1010 Burke Avenue, Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is near death at the present and I am wondering if this policy is still in affect. I am his brother David Marshall Bradley. My address is 15635 W. Maui Ln., Surprise, Arizona 85379. My email address is blues2go@aol.com Please reply, David
Visit the insurer's website and ask for 'Status' of your policy,by quoting the policy number, wherein you will find either continuity or non-existence of the related policy bond.
policy no. 508220 is my policy still in effect
If you are the owner of the policy or the legal power of attorney for an individual who is unable to perform these duties you will need to contact the carrier of the policy. When contacting the carrier of the policy you will need the proper documentation proving you have the authority to receive such information. Once proven, the company can provide you with that information.
The difference between a passive and an active dividend policy lies in the amount of time between dividend disbursement. In a passive dividend policy, dividends are given when the company decides it is time. With an active dividend policy, dividends are disbursed at regular intervals.

Yes, If the policy was active at the time of the loss then coverage is still valid and not affected by the death of the insured.
Sure, if the policy is still in force and a claim was never made on the policy before. It is surprising that no one had filed the claim before. Just because you found an old life insurance policy in a box doesn't mean it wasn't claim previously. The executor of the estate would have had the obligation to search records and files and make claims on any active life insurance policies. Even if they didn't have the policy, they could have signed a proof of lost policy form and filed the claim on the policy after death. It's worth checking with the company for to make sure. If it is still active they will pay interest in addition to the death benefits.
