In the US, apparently, you are required to list all household residents and anyone who drives your vehicles. Why would you not have your spouse listed on our policy as a driver unless she has a bad driving record and you don't want to pay the additional premium. Guess what. Since you don't want to pay the additional premium you also do not have insurance. The insurance company will not pay the claim because you have committed material misrepresentation. This is all plainly spelled out in your policy and application which are legally binding contracts in which you promise to pay the premiums, notify the company of all household residents and drivers of your vehicles as well as a few other responsibilities. In exchange for your promises the company agrees to pay claims up to your limits and within the requirements of the policy. If you don't hold up your end they don't hold up their end. That's how contracts work. The company may make exceptions if say you just got married a week ago and haven't gotten around to adding her yet. But if you have been married you can be assured that the claim will be denied.

The requirements in other countries are different. In the UK, for instance, there is no requirement to name anybody on your insurance if they carry their own insurance. If that is the case they can then, if their insurance allows, drive any insured vehicle not owned by them or hired to them under a hire purchase agreement.
