In 1940, the US passed the Lend-Lease Act, which allowed the US to provide war materials, including weapons, vehicles, and supplies, to the Allies. The US also provided financial assistance through loans to countries like Britain and the Soviet Union, as well as offering military advisors and intelligence support. Additionally, the US participated in the Atlantic Charter, a joint declaration with Britain that outlined the post-war goals of peace and self-determination.
The US Navy was the primary force. US Marines stationed on the ships participated in a number of shore engagements against the Barbary Pirates, which is the reason that 'the Shores of Tripoli' are commemorated in the Marine Corps Hymn.
