i do not agree because if you look at the second story "March- Motocross hero- Adam" it clearly should the joy and hope Robbie Blair brings to the school and everyone who accossiates with him. And although Hattie leaves to be with her aunty in November, she is back in January and is holding a New Years Eve party and cant wait for her friend Ange to arive, so clearly she has returned and is much happier and hopeful. The whole town are all celebrating and no-one is left out on New Years Eve. August from the point of view from Ray is an interesting interpretation of a real-life event that has been turned back in time to suit the situation which is an english exam. This ends on a happy note because everyone is content if not happy.
Even "July- Speaking of Dragons- Mark" does seem bleak and without hope he actually finds peace and hope in creating this masterpiece which is his dragon and he realises that he can do whatever he wants because of the faith symbolised by the dragon.
hope that helped :)
While some of James Roy's short stories in Town may be bleak and without hope, it is ultimately up to personal interpretation. Roy's stories often explore themes of struggle, loss, and hardship, but they may also offer glimpses of resilience and redemption amidst the darkness. It is important to consider the nuances and complexities in his work before drawing a definitive conclusion.
