If Jesus opposed divorce, he was in direct violation of the laws of the Torah (the first 5 books of The Bible), which allow for divorce.
Insight from Scripture:Matthew 19:3-9 - The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?"
He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." [NKJV]
Because he got fed up with Mary
Both the Bible and Jesus teach that divorce is wrong because christian marriage is a partnership between a man and a woman forever. One of the promises made is that you will be 'Married to the grave'.
Bishop Alexander of Alexandria believed that Jesus was inferior to God. He believed that because God begot Jesus, He wasn't equal to God.
Jesus.
The Pharisees were asking Jesus about divorce. Jesus refused to be drawn into the rabbinical controversy over the possible valid basis for divorce. Jesus pointed out that the permission of Deut. 24:1-4 ("because he hath found some uncleanness in her") was not God's original intent. Divorce was permitted only because of "the hardness of your heart." Then Jesus went back to God's original intent in Genesis 1:27; 2:24, permanent monogamy: one man and one woman together for life.
Jesus Christ himself said that there is no such thing as divorce. How could the Church contradict him by speaking in favor of divorce?
The Sadducees opposed Jesus, they were the Temple , priestly group. He was also opposed by some of the Pharisees who were the faction which represented the Lay folk.
No it is not at all true. As Jesus always spoke against adultery and divorce, and do not forget this Jesus was absolutely sinless.
In New testament times, rabbis were divided as to the valid basis for divorce. "Because he hath found some uncleanness in her" (Deut. 24:1) left room for interpretation. One group of rabbis insisted divorce could be granted only if the wife was immoral. Another group argued divorce could be secured by the husband if the wife displeased him in any way. Among the Jews, only the husband had the right to secure a divorce. Jesus refused to be drawn into the rabbinical controversy over the possible valid basis for divorce. Jesus pointed out that the permission of Deut. 24:1 was not God's original intent. Divorce was permitted only because of "the hardness of your heart." Then Jesus went back to God's original intent in Gen. 1:27, 2:24, permanent monogamy: one man and one woman together for life.
Jesus, himself, said that divorce was not correct. 'Any man who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. . . . '
Yes, the Sadducees opposed Jesus partly because they believed his teachings went against their understanding of Scripture, particularly regarding beliefs in the resurrection and the afterlife. They challenged Jesus on these theological differences during his ministry.
Not that good, his personality took a downfall after his divorce with Jesus.
