Yes pull pto up when pressing reverse pedal pto remains engaged. release when moving forward.
My Huskee mower will not mow in reverse due to a switch that kills the engine if the blades are engaged. This is very inconvenient. I removed the switch and it now mows in reverse. Do this at your own risk. I am the only person who uses my mower and it will be reinstituted when I sell the mower.
Be sure that when you put the unit in reverse that the blades for the mower are not engaged. That will prevent the mower from operating

You should never by pass any safety sensors on your lawn mower. BUT :for testing your brake sensor you can try taking the wires off the switch that is hooked ether at the back of the peddle or on the linkage and join them together .That should bypass it until you get a new switch.
