If you just bought a Car, You need to put the insurance in "Your" Name. If you want your girlfriend to be a covered driver you can add her to the policy as an addiitional driver. Putting the insurance in your girlfriends name provides coverage for your girlfriend but would not provide insurance for yourself. If you want to put the insurance in your girlfriends name just because you think it''s cheaper and you know you will be driving, Then this would constitute misrepresentaion of the risk, AKA "Insurance Fraud" and the Insurance company woudl have no obligation to pay for an accident that you have.
