i would suspect tps sensor.
But first check all the obvious, bad gas, fuel filter plugged, air filter plugged,last time it had a tune up ? etc.
one other thing that has been a huge problem in 1995 to 2002 sportages is the fuel pump relay and the main engine relay,they were famous for making the engine cut out while driving.Always replace in pairs,about $16.00 ea and you can put in yourself, hpoe this helps.
