There are very high quality puppy chow/kibble available in pet specialty shops (*not* large chains like PetCo, etc.); you probably would do better to see about getting a pet food with all human-grade and/or organic ingredients than making it routinely yourself.
An easy meal that you can make OCCASIONALLY for your (full-grown) dog after getting your vet's permission is 1/2 pound lean ground turkey meat browned in olive oil, 1/4 prepared oatmeal, and 1/4 mix of dog-appropriate diced frozen vegetables (carrots, peas, corn). After thoroughly cooking, add a teaspoon of flax seeds or flax oil and sprinkle some minced parsley in.
Dogs and puppies in particular need a more complex diet than this one meal can offer them, so if you are committed to cooking home-made food for your dog you need to consult your vet and experts (and the library) and develop a month-long dietary plan for your dog that your vet approves of.
same as all dogs
Labrador Retriever's do actually eat meat but they obviously don't eat humans or meat that is inside a moving animal, just in case you were wondering but they do eat a lot no matter what the food is
With little or no grooming, labs will shed a lot. If they are brushed or combed every day they will not shed so much
Labrador retrievers are greedy when it comes to eating:D my Labrador sits patiently at the end of the table staring at our food whenever we eat:D she ate 8 bowls of rice once when she was a puppy, she 'shared' food with other 7 dogs who ran away when she came along(:
I feed my Labs Nutro brand dog food. It costs a little more, but is excellent for them.
Eight weeks to four months: three feedings per day.Four months to twelve months: two feedings per day.Over twelve months: one feeding per day, either morning or night.
It is then 'homemade'
It doesn't have to be hard or overwhelming. In fact it can be really simple. My dogs have been on homemade food for 3 years and their health is top knotch. No more itchy, flaky skin or shedding. And, the fat one is now a lean, muscled superdog! Here's a great recipe that I started using about 6 months ago that makes it super easy to make homemade dog food.
Because junk food has lots of fats, which brings up more weight. Homemade is better because whoever is cooking for you knows what's right. Junk food does have oils and fats. And when you make food at home you prevent from using oils and fats. So, homemade food has a greater chance of being healthier.
It is homemade, as in homemade bread and cakes, etc
