It depends on which route you plan to take. The Pacific Highway north from Sydney has many rest stops and free campsites for travellers and those wishing to stop overnight. Indeed, anywhere throughout NSW offers these facilities. Once you reach the Queensland border, it is quite a different matter. For some reason, Queensland offers no free campsites along the main eastern highway, and potential spots are always signed with a "No overnight camping" warning. If you venture inland, the local councils are far less retentive and much more welcoming, but if you plan to travel along the coast, you would be advised to book in to caravan parks.

If you wish to spend a night within the Park boundaries, you can either 1) stay at one of the lodges or cabins within the park. 2) camp at one of campgrounds. 3) obtain a overnight backpacking permit. Note that, for the first two, demand far exceeds supply. You can NOT just show up at the Park without a reservation, and expect to get either a room or a camp site.
