Public Law 380, signed into law by President Eisenhower on June 21, 1954, changed November from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. This change was intended to honor all veterans, not just those of WW1. November 11, 1954 was the first Veterans Day.
The law requires that employers with Federal contracts or subcontracts of $25,000 or more provide equal opportunity and affirmative action for Vietnam era veterans, special disabled veterans, and veterans who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized . ~ see related link below .

Veterans Day came to be when WW1 ended, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. At first Veterans Day was called Armstice Day. This day was reserved to acknowledge the courage and the patriotism of the United States who have fought for our country. It wasn't until May 13, 1938 that the law was adopted to make Armstice Day a federal and national holiday for November 11th of each year. Then in June 6 of 1954 Congress changed the named Armstice Day to Veterans Day to honor all of mthe United States.who where they fighting????????????????/
Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day and was first commemorated on November 11, 1919. It was officially designated as a national holiday on May 13, 1938. Armistice Day was officially renamed to Veterans Day on June 1, 1954. It is observed on November 11th of every year.
