The first computer engineer of India is considered to be Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar. He is known for his work in developing India's first indigenous supercomputer, PARAM, and establishing the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Pune, India. Dr. Bhatkar has made significant contributions to the field of computer engineering and continues to be a prominent figure in the Indian technology sector.
Cray's first supercomputer was the CDC 6600 in 1964. The IBM 7030 Stretch (1961), UNIVAC LARC (1960), and IBM NORC (1954) supercomputers had preceded it but few of them were ever made and they were not really considered very successful.
