"Consumer" is the biological term for life that derives its energy from other living things.
Plants are an organism capable of producing their own food. (Organisms are all living things, technically plants are living...) Plants create their own food through photosynthesis.
Organisms that make their own food are called producers.
Producers make their own food from non-living things like the sun to make their own food using photosynthesis to get energy. Living things like herbivores eat producers for energy. Decomposers break down non-living things and then fertilizes things like producers. I don't really know the answer that well but that's how I explained it I don't know if I will get good marks for it but it will do! <3
Plants make their own food by photosynthesis and herbivores go around and look for plants. Omnivores hunt food or does what the herbivores do and carnivores hunt their food.
The only living organism which can make up its own food is plants. Plants use their leaves which contain chloroplasts to convert the sunlights energy into the production of Glucose. For a plant to do this it requires sunlight, oxygen, mild heat and water.

Living things capable of processing their own food are called Autotrophs. They are living things which contain chlorophyll. So, plants are the only autotrophs.

When living things cannot make their own dinner, it is called, "Going out to eat!", or , "Making reservations!"
All animals eat other living things, either plants or other animals. The only living things that make their own food are plants.

All living things depend on green plants for food because they are producers. They are the only organisms that are able to make their own food.
All members of the Protista Kingdom make their own food or feed on other living things. All protists are eukaryotic, and most are unicellular.
Producers are living things that make their own food, like plants. Black widows are consumers, which get food by eating other living things.
