On a Chevy Small Block V8 the #1 plug is located on the driver's side front of the engine. They are numbered front to rear, driver's side, 1-3-5-7 and passenger side front to rear 2-4-6-8. Turn the engine until the #1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. The rotor will be pointing at the #1 cylinder.
