The filter is directly behind the glove compartment door.
As shown in the manual, remove the single screw holding the door opening mechanism (right side) and pull the mechanism away (don't lose the screw). Drop the door down until it can be removed easily from the hinge.
The filter door is easy to spot. Just pull to open (it's more like a drawer than a door). Remove old filter, insert new, reverse process.

On a 4 cylinder, 2007 Toyota Solara. it is on the right side of the engine, just to the left of the frame. It is underneath the air conditioner pump.

You don't. There is no cabin air filter on the Gen I Solara. The interior air filter appeared on the 2004 (gen II) and later Solara. Cheers
