all my lights work except my break lights, when i push on the peddle they dont go on can you help me?
If the fuses and bulbs are okay I would blame the signal switch assembly. They call it a multi-function switch these days.
How the brake lights work on a 66 Mustang is very simple. Power goes from the headlight switch to the brake light switch, then through the turn signal switch and back to the brake lights. There is no fuse in that system. There is a self resetting circuit breaker in the headlight switch, but, if that was tripped, none of the lights on the car would work. The first thing to check is the brake light switch itself by bypassing it. Unplug the connector from the switch and run a jumper from from one slot in the connector to the other. If the brake lights come on, replace the brake light switch. If they don't, the problem is either a wire has lost continuity or there is a problem in the turn signal switch.
check and see if you have cut or pinched the wire harness going into the switch housing on the throttle side... i pinched mine and lost brake, turn lights,,, still had tail lights in the turn signals but that is because i was using a brake/turn controller on the rear lights...

Check for voltage at the socket. My guess would be that you lost a chassis ground in the trunk. Look near the trunk hinges in the luggage compartment for loose/hanging wires and inspect the connections you find for tightness/corrosion.
if you mean that your brake lights stays on, the problem most likely will be a bad/shorted brake light switch and as a result your battery lost power therefore your car is not going to start. o under your dash board on your brake pedal you'll see a wired/switch conected to it.you need to press the brake and disconect that wire/sending unit until you get a new switch otherwise it will keep eating your battery.remember once you disconect that, your brake lights wont work.(don't get a ticket)
Check the bulbs. I'm not sure on a 97, but there used to be a connector at the back that connected the wires from the front to the lights. At the back edge of the bed underneath. These can become corroded. Had any trailer lights added? Lost the ground wire underneath, caught it on something maybe? Since it is the tail and brake lights both, it has to be at the back end. Simplest solution is to stick a new bulb in just to make sure. You have probably already done this, but I mention it anyway.
Check bulbs - they are double filamented with the smaller beign for brake and turn signals Check the sockets for power and ground Could be an open wire under bed Possibly a problem insdie the steering column
check fuses
you could have broken a ground wire for the driving lights, you could have cut a hydraulic brake line. You need to connect a code scanner to see what the warning lights mean AND check the brake fluid and the integrity of the hydraulics before you try to drive it. You can borrow, rent or buy a code scanner at most auto parts retailers.
Make sure all air is out of the lines. Next check the vacuum lines from the booster. Make sure the Emergency brake is all the way off this ca cause the brake light to stay on also. The light only comes on (usually) when pressure is being lost or not maintained. If there was a abs sensor connector at that wheel check that also.
