Low oil pressure 1990 dodge Dakota engine runs good and does not burn hardly any oil. would changing the original oil pump help the problem?

Replace sending unit with a manual gauge to verify low oil pressure
Low oil pressure could be caused by excessive engine wear
Try replacing oil pump with high velocity type
Take both a wet and dry compression test to determine if rings or valves are worm to excess
