How do you change rear main oil seal in a 2000 Toyota celica gt. thanks
How hard is it to change the rear main seal in my 1992 toyota pickup , with the 3.0 V6
remove transmission, remove rear main seal, install new rear main seal, install transmission.
You need to replace the oil seal.
You will have to replace the rear main seal. This will require that the transmission be removed.
remove all the screws that hold it in place and pry it off with a large screwdriver. clean both surfaces of all sealant and oil before applying new sealant then replace the pan.
Remove left front tore. remove lower engine splash guard. remove serpentine belt. remove bolt that holds belt pulley on adn use either a puller or just gently pry off balancer pulley. Pry out out seal. Now buy a good silicone sealant and put it around new seal ( clean seal mounting surface first). Now just push it in until it is flush with timing chain cover. It's that easy. I let my sealant set for a hour before I started the car.
That would be a 1 piece seal, They quite using 2 piece seals in the 80's
It's between the transmission and engine bodies, going around the crankshaft.
There are some oil additives you can get, that might stop the leak. But if the leak has developed, the only way to fix it is to replace the seal.
you have to separate engine and transmission
Depends on whether its a 4X4 or RWD.
