In 1919 there was no veteran's day, only armistice day on the 11th of November. People did not celebrate it very much, other than remembering WWI. In 1954, our veteran's day was made, and was celebrated widely.

I think that it depends on the weather outside, and what day of the week Veteran's Day falls on. I was at the mall on Veteran's Day. It was a nice, warm Sunday afternoon, and there wasn't many people. Although if Veteran's Day falls on a rainy Saturday, it's likely to be crowded. If it falls on a sunny Wednesday, it will probably be less crowded. It varies just like any day at the mall does. Hope this helped!
