The Mayan calendar ends on that date, and simply because a calendar of human conception "ends" on a certain day, does not mean that a great deal of people will NOT live after 12/21/2012. Ask any anthropologist regarding this question, and he will explain to you also that they believed there will be a "new age" after this date, not the destruction of the earth. Please discourage any myths.

The Mayas were a warlike race. But were always fighting each other constantly. Conquering another continent would have to mean the Mayas would cease fighting and unite together to accomplish that. They also probably didn't have any political reason to take over another continent, considering they were very religious.

The Aztecs we a people which would be called a civilization or a society of which people were learning in advance pace or just learning and building thing such as technology so yes I would call the Aztec, Incas ,and Mayas a civilization.
