Age at death estimates from the skull are based on the extent to which the various bones of the cranium have fused together. Unfortunately its been shown that the rate at which this fusion takes place is fairly variable, meaning the method is not that accurate.
Where teeth remain these provide a far more accurate indicator.
In practice the most accurate calculations come from taking age at death estimates based on as much of the skeleton as is available, and so studies of just the skull, especially without teeth can only provide a rough estimate at best.
By carbondating the bodies of which scientists use radioactivity to determine the age of objects. It is a way of determining the age of certain archeological artifacts of a biological origin up to about 50,000 years old and used in dating things such as bone, cloth, wood and plant fibers that were created in the relatively recent past by human activities.

The study of a person's traits by deciphering the shape of the person's skull (phrenos: mind, head, as in schizophrenia; logy: the study of). It's a pseudoscience and has no scientific basis.
Fontanelle is the name for the soft tissue "spaces" between the bones of the skull in babies and infants under the age of two. These areas of soft tissue (although actually strong and tough) enable the infant skull to more easily pass through the birth canal since they allow the bony skull plates to move and reshape slightly as needed during the birth process. These are also commonly called "soft spots" in babies. These areas ossifyto become bone tissue around the childhood age of two, and then gradually over a person's life connect more and more tightly with the adjoining skull plates, forming the cohesive skull. They would then be called "sutures" of the skull instead of fontanelles. The sutures continue to "knit" or heal together with each other throughout a persons life until after the age of 50 when they are usually fully knit. However, in some people some of the sutures, especially the parietal, never do become totally knit. This understanding of the closing process of the fontanelles and knitting of the sutures is helpful in the sciences of forensics and archeology to determine the age at death when skeletons are scientifically studied post mortem.
In babies the skull joint is the fontanel (fontanelle) which helps in birth due to its flexibility but in the adult the skull joint is a fixed joint or a synarthrotic joint (immovable) called a suture.
A Man had the largest skull ever documented, it measured 1980CC
Fixed joints in humans are located in the skull and pelvis.
A scientist who examines the shape of the head to determine causes of human behavior would likely be known as a phrenologist. Phrenology is a pseudoscience that suggests personality traits can be determined by studying the shape and features of the skull.

In Chapter 15 of "Canyons," Tibbits is qualified to examine the skull because he is an archaeologist and has experience in studying ancient remains. He also has specialized knowledge in identifying and analyzing bones, allowing him to accurately determine the age and origin of the skull. Additionally, his expertise in the field gives him the necessary skills to draw conclusions about the skull's significance within the story.

A skull left on someone's front porch could have multiple interpretations depending on the context and the intent of the person leaving it. It could be a threatening gesture, a warning, a symbol of death or danger, or even a prank. It is important to consider the relationship between the recipient and the person leaving the skull to understand its meaning better.
Death or the grim reaper. If you mean a sugar or chocolate skull, it is a mocking of the death that usually forms part of the "Day of the dead" celebration in Mexico.
