The modem speed remains 44kbps, but the actual data extracted from those 44kbps bit stream is jst 3kbps...
Some additional bits are added in the actual data to check the correctness of data... these extra bits added are sometimes called as parity or check bits
This difference is to keep the integrity of data download and keep it free from erroneous information...
