If Amerigo Vespucci hadn't become an explorer, than America wouldn't have been named after him and it wouldn't be called America!
No. The camera wasn't invented until 1830 about 400 years later than Vespucci lived.
Columbus is a phony because he got credit for what Amerigo Vespucci discovered. Christopher actually only found the Bahamas. Amerigo Vespucci really discovered America. I don't know why we celebrate ''Columbus Day'' he didn't even find anything! I personally don't celebrate the holiday. I'd rather celebrate ''Amerigo Day'' than ''Columbus Day'' any day! John Cabot
because he discovered a lot of south america than people tought existed
Amerigo Vespucci had two voyages on the easy coast of South America. With these voyages, he discovered that South America extended much further than had formerly been believed leading to the supposition that this was a new continent.
Amerigo Vespucci claimed America and named it after him but because most countries are feminine, he named in America not Amerigo------------He did not claim America. He thought that the South American coast that he visited was a 'new world', in spite of the claim by Columbus (to his dying day) that it was part of Asia.Martin Waldseemüller in 1507, was the very first person to map this coast and name the new continent- America (as a Latinized and feminized version of Vespucci's first name).
To prove that Asia wasn't Asia, but a new world! Or... He was remembered in history because he made a speicial map that had more land than anyone else's map!
Christopher Columbus was proven wrong by Amerigo Vespucci because Amerigo had looked for signs but he found none. It had turned out the earth was bigger than they thought so they had to look farther than Marco polo had thought.
Amerigo Vespucci
Amerigo Vespucci sailed west and explored the coast of South America. He studied the writings of an ancient Egyptian named Ptolemy, who believed the Earth was largerand Asia was smaller than most people thought. Vespucci also found a new way of measuring the distance traveled east and west, and concluded that a new world had been discovered. Martin Waldseemuller drew a map, and included the new continent, which he named for Vespucci. In 1507, the continent "America" first appeared on a map.
He explored the coast of Venezuela, but wrote in his book he "discovered" North America. In 1839 the English Explorers Society proved he lied in his book. ----- I never knew that. I looked it up. I still don't know it. Amerigo Vespucci explored the coast of South America while sailing for the King of Portugal. He could see the land was much bigger than what Ptolemy thought it should be and was not India or China, so he wrote a letter to d'Medici saying it must be a previously unknown continent.
