Not in WW2. Before 1939, each US Army Infantry Division had 4 infantry regiments. This proved to be too large for use on the battlefield. So the size the division was reduced and one regiment was removed. So the 3rd Infantry Regiment could have been part of a Division before then. However, during WW2 the 3rd Infantry Regiment was not part of an infantry division. Source: http://www.custermen.com/ItalyWW2/ArmyOrg/OrgChart/Divisions.htm

If you are referring to the U.S.A. Armies standard weapon for infantry it is/was the range of M16 Assault rifles. Now they are being phased out and replaced with M4 Carbines.
The US military's primary infantry weapon for training is the M16. Just remember that when you enter bootcamp that you dont call the M16 your "gun".. The M16 is your "weapon"
Most US Civil War historians believe that artillery often played a crucial role in US Civil War battles. They estimate that approximately 3 to 4 cannons per thousand of infantry was a proper and effective ratio.
The standard US infantry weapon was the Springfield muzzle loading percussion cap rifle fitted with a ring socket bayonet. Most of the artillery was also of the rifled muzzle loading variety. Cavalry troops used the breech loading Sharps Carbine, plus a sabre, and a percussion cap revolver. Officers also carried a revolver and a sabre in lieu of a rifle.
