I am not sure that is regulated by the state... you usually have some cash value in most policies going into or around the 5th year. If you are planning on cashing in than whole life is not the right policy for you. 4lifeguild

Is a cash-value policy the same as a permanent insurance policy?

Yes, the types of permanent insurance policies - whole life and universal life - are designed to build cash value. There are permanent life insurance policies that offer guarantees over cash value accumulation, therefore staying in force until age 105, 115, 121, etc - and build very little cash value. The cost for this type of permanent insurance is often much lower than those that will build significant cash value.

Can you cash in your policy?

Yes, if you have a policy with cash value. Term policies have no cash value. Permanent policies designed to develop cash value probably have no value if they are newer than 3 years old. Contact the insurance company for a surrender value. Also ask what other options you have (loans, stop premiums, etc).

Can you take out a loan from all life insurance policies?

No. Only whole life insurance policies (sometimes called "permanent insurance") accumulate cash value. Policy loans are generally available from the accrued cash value. Since term insurance does not gather cash value, policy loans are unavailable.

You have two life insurance companies coverage one is 20000 the other is 10000 how much is my total coverage?

If they are both term life insurance policies, your total coverage would be $30,000. If one, or both are permanent life insurance policies, there may be cash value inside the policies that adds to the payout from the life insurance policies, so there may actually be more than $30,000, if you include the cash value inside the policies.

What is surrender value?

The sum of money an insurance company will pay to the policyholder or annuity holder in the event his or her policy is voluntarily terminated before its maturity or the insured event occurs. This cash value is the savings component of most permanent life insurance policies, particularly whole life insurance policies. Also known as "cash value", "surrender value" and "policyholder's equity".

Do you get any cash value from cancelling term life insurance?

no you do not , you can however convert the policy to a 'perm' permanent or whole life policy generally without going thru medical again. The term policy is for a specified term, 88$ of these policies never get paid out because the insured outlives or cancels the policy. A permanent policy generally does pay out and is signifacantly more money based on your age and health. These policies generally start building up cash value in year 3.

Can you have 2 homeowners policies one loan value and one home value?

no - you cannot insure a property for more than the cost to rebuild - some states are specific laws making this practice illegal

What percentage of life insurance policies lapse before they have been in force for two years?

One in every 14 of customers with term life-insurance policies stop paying the premiums each year, according to life insurance industry group Limra. For those with permanent policies, which may have a cash value long before the death of the insured, some 25% of policyholders stop making premium payments within the first three years of owning the policies; within 10 years, 40% have let the policies lapse.
