The first parts of the "new world" to be colonized by western Europeans in the early 16th century were the Caribbean islands.
Ancient greek population movements colonized the area of Greece.
Several European nations colonized America. Spain colonized Florida and parts of the Southwest. England colonized the East Coast and further inland. France colonized the Mississippi River area. The Netherlands colonized the area around New York, but were driven out by England. Russian colonized Alaska.

Burundi was originally colonized by Germany as part of German East Africa in the 1880s. After Germany was defeated in World War I, the area now known as Burundi was ceded to Belgium.

The French colonized an area in Canada known today as Quebec.

South Africa
At its height, the British Empire encompassed 25% of the world and extended to all continents. The part of the world least colonised by Britain was South America which was mostly colonised by Spain.
The Spaniards colonized that area. The Spaniards were the first whites to visit and settle the area.
English, Chinese and Spanish are the most popular languages on Earth. English is spoken about anywhere in the world. China and Taiwan are both Chinese countries and China has a huge population. Since Spain colonized most of Latin America, much of that area speaks Spanish.
