My 1997 Gmc savana van is getting gas and spark why won't it start?

I have a 1997 gmc savana 1500 5.7 when i crank on motor it wont start when i stop cranking with the ignition in the on position it spits smoke out the intake and motor shakes.Any idea what this could be?
